3 Tips for Coping with Pain

Chronic pain? No one wants to live with it. Coping with pain can feel like torture. And specfically, people with Fibromyalgia pain get tired of enduring such agony on a semmingly endless basis. In an effort to feel better, we all want pain relief!

This week you and I will explore a total of 11 Tips for Coping with Pain.

(Hopefully you'll feel good enough over the Thanksgiving holiday to enjoy yourself.)

The Friday Health Matters Show, the day after Thanksgiving, November 28, 2008, wraps up the week of our discussion on pain.

Learn a little or a lot. Make sure you're coping with your pain in the most healthy ways possible. And now for the first 3 tips to help you...

  1. Ignoring your pain (Try it. If you're lucky, your pain may go away or subside somewhat. Otherwise, if it persists and you're still ignoring it, you won't bring up emotions and cause a flood of biochemicals associated with panic thereby excalating unpleasant symptoms of pain. This is a scientifically accepted practice, just hard to do. Think bio-feedback.)
  2. Not regarding the pain as your enemy (This actually works pretty well up to a point. This is in the same vein as not giving in to panic. Also you're not added the increased value of your attention to "pain" because of allowing negative feelings.)
  3. Going to bed to escape from it (Unfortunately pain signals often heighten when you concentrate on them... alone... in the bed. Put on some soothing music or try to relax by meditating. It's been proven that the bio-chemicals released in you body during a meditative state are very good at helping you relax and calm your body. Pain cannot hurt as much if you're calm and don't exhibit panic in any form. If you succeed at this, your perception of your pain should lessen and may subside completely.)
  4. These are the first 3 tips. There will be 5 more tomorrow. If you have some ways that work for you, please share them right now in time for people to use them for the holidays! (Please, post away.)

    Thanks, Cinda Crawford
