Last night I went to bed with a really sharp pain in my lower right backside. The muscles were knotted and cramped like I had done 1,000 leg lifts. What was going on?
I don't usually get muscle pain or muscle cramps much anymore, but my memory of the acute days of Fibro Pain (Fibromyalgia) are well entrenched in every cell of my body. That type of pain no one forgets very soon.
As I limped to bed, I wanted answers, but chose sanctuary...
Sanctuary and personal care to be specific:
- a long-acting acetomenophen (Arthritis strength to last through the night)
- a muscle relaxer that I had saved for such an emergency
- a muscle rub (my favorite, Tiger Balm Sports
) - a percussion massager (to put right on the spot)
- and my bed.
Warning: Such an approach might not work for you. This is my personal opinion. My combination, multi-faceted plan of action helped to relieve my acute pain. I also could have taken a warm bath, which tends to relax muscles.
After some shifting and easy turning in the bed, I finally found a comfortable position and drifted off to sleep. Today I'm still somewhat stiff and my hip feels like it has a tiny knot, but I'm actually much better. (Maybe I'll take that warm soak later on today.)
PS- Hindsight is always 20/20. What we need to develop is the foresight to avoid such health problems. I believe that I know what caused my sore muscles. Sunday I attended three dress-up functions in a row so I kept on my Sunday School clothes and high heels for many hours. I think the shoes were the offending party. They threw off my posture. I'm not used to the change in position that the high heels brought to my body. By wearing those different shoes, I apparently set up my body for Monday's problem.
Hint about Fibro: Watch what you wear, how long you stand, walk, sit or lie down without moving and stretching and don't forget to listen to your body. Otherwise, it may talk to you in a manner in which you'd rather not listen!
PPS- Return here tomorrow when I'll give you hints about another mechanism that can help with Fibro Pain and lots of other problems. We need tools in our toolbag!
Thank and here's to your health,
