Recently I read an article that originated from the McClathy-Tribune by Frederica Narancio. It was titled, Clean enough' is just fine, say many women.
That got me to wondering because I often hear people say, "Oh, I'm not that sick with Fibromyalgia. It's not as bad as it used to be. I'm healthy enough now... I don't want to do anything about it."
That kind of statement makes me curious because I don't understand why anyone would settle for living less than in a truly healthy body. Why are we settling for less?
And an even more curious question for people with Fibromyalgia, why are you settling for living In bodies that still feel like the enemy? Is there is an uneasy truce going on that you hope will last if you don't stir the waters? Is that even realistic?
"Oh, Lord, please don't let me be that sick again!"
The obvious truth is, we are not confident enough to say that we won't be that sick again. We're not confident enough to see our dreams and life expectations being met. And the biggest reason for that is because we're not sure enough that we're healthy for the long haul. What a quasi, confusing state to live in!
So I re-read Frederica Narancio's article more thoroughly, attempting to really investigate this concept of why women settle for less than clean homes. Why do we settle?
Apparently a new housekeeping standard has arisen. Women are settling for less than clean homes because we are too busy to keep up. Our careers and lives as women, wives and mothers are calling and many are answering the call-- full force! Something has to go, so it's the housework.
"Clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy," is the way Elizabeth Sherrill, 52 of Kansas City, Mo., put it.
Clean enough was the term used over and over. Does that mean we're healthy enough with Fibromyalgia to get by? Get by with what? I don't know if you're like me, but I don't want to get by. I want to do more than survive. I want to thrive and live a healthy, happy life.
I encourage you:
- Take your courage in hand.
- Figure out what it's going to take to do more than get by.
- Don't settle for a lesser level of health than you can attain.
If you dare... dream about the new life and health that you want. Do more than get by by moving forward and making it happen.
And if you're wondering from a physical standpoint what advice a physical therapist might have to offer to the conversation of being healthy enough and how to get healthier, check in Friday, August 29, 2008 for a special treat where our guest is a physical therapist! (Who? You'll have to stop by and see!)
